About us Who we are About Amma ETW The Movie Our eBook In the Media How you can help About our Volunteers AYUDH Youth Volunteers Get Involved Real life stories English Danish French German Italian Japanese Spanish Swedish GO Basic Needs Food Shelter Healthcare Education Livelihood Emergencies Environment Research News second-column: LATEST NEWS Amma Mexico drops off supplies to families in need during COVID-19 October 12, 2020 Volunteers with Amma Mexico in Cancun were accustomed to holding regular soup kitchens to help people living in poverty in their area. However with social distancing as the main concern, the coronavirus pandemic has put that action on hold. To bridge the gap, the volunteers are preparing boxes of groceries and basic necessities to drop off at people’s homes. COVID-19 is Nature telling humankind to mend its ways, says Amma on 67th Birthday September 28, 2020 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 67th birthday of Amma was celebrated on September 27th exclusively as a day of global prayers for world peace. Ashram residents and devotees around the world dedicated the day to meditation, chanting of prayers and worship. During a webcast, Amma said there is no need for guilt or fault-finding for the current state of the world. Instead, humanity should engage in noble action with intense alertness and courage. Amrita University awarded second UNESCO Chair September 9, 2020 Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been awarded a UNESCO Chair for Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation & Development. The Chair supports the university’s mandate to strengthen sustainable development in villages across India. The curriculum is based upon the concept that students spend time with villagers to witness the problems they face. Together, the students and local people seek solutions that will best suit the villagers’ needs. Aid for 20,000 blind and visually impaired people in Kenya August 27, 2020 AYUDH Kenya has partnered with Safaricom to distribute white canes to 20,000 blind and visually impaired people in Kenya. The project is worth more than $250,000. Safaricom is a leading communications company in Africa that works in partnership with communities to positively transform people’s lives. The endeavor is a milestone for the White C(r)ane Project, which AYUDH started in Kenya in 2014. SEE ALL NEWS STORIES Our Founder & Inspiration: Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) Spiritual leader, humanitarian and visionary Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (known to millions simply as ‘Amma’), is a servant of the world community. Through her inspiring life of love, inner strength and self-sacrifice, Mata Amritanandamayi has inspired people all over the planet to strive to make more and more space in the hearts for others and to dedicate free time to social service. At the invitation of admirers from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe and elsewhere, Amma travels throughout the world, guiding people to emotional fulfillment as well as offering insights and solutions to global issues such as environmental pollution, mistreatment of women, and religious disharmony. At the center of Amma’s life is her darshan: the tender, caring embrace that has been sought out by millions. It is in this intimate manner—a heartfelt hug—that Mata Amritanandamayi meets one and all, listens to their problems and gives them the inspiration and knowledge to uplift themselves and, ultimately, others. What we've Achieved 75 MILLION DOLLARS in disaster relief since 2004 51,000 SCHOLARSHIPS for children in poverty worldwide 200,000 WOMEN helped to start their own businesses 47,000 HOUSES in 75 locations throughout India 4.7 MILLION PATIENTS treated free of charge since 1998 10 MILLION MEALS every year for the homeless and hungry throughout India MORE THAN ONE MILLION TREES planted worldwide since 2001 ONE IN THREE children from our orphanage in India earn a college degree LIFETIME FINANCIAL AID FOR 100,000 widows and people with disabilities Prof. Muhammad Yunus 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Founder, Grameen Bank Our Approach Volunteer-run A unique feature of Embracing the World's administrative structure is that all top-level administrators at both the national and international levels are volunteers. There are also a huge number of volunteers active at every level of the organization - the vast majority of all our efforts are carried out by volunteers. This combined with an ethic of personal renunciation demonstrated by Amma and filtered down to every level of the organization ensures that the funds raised directly reach the beneficiaries of our projects, instead of being dissipated in administrative overhead. DOING MORE WITH LESS Studies show that when governments and some organizations allocate money for relief projects, much of it is dissipated in wages. Amma points out: “It's like pouring oil from one glass to another down a line — in the end, you don't have any oil left; it is all stuck to the inside of the glasses. This way, 1,000 dollars become 100 dollars by the time it reaches the people. Whereas if we get 10 dollars, we add our effort to it and the money multiplies.” – Mata Amritanandamayi Amma is not blaming the government; of course, government employees need to make a living. But our army of volunteers allows us to do more with less. "MY CHILDREN ARE MY STRENGTH" We don't use contractors. All the materials-like bricks, windows, doors, tables, chairs, beds - are made in-house. The electrical, plumbing and structure is all done by volunteers. But Amma places the credit for her success squarely on the shoulders of her admirers around the world. “It is my children who have made all this possible. My children are my wealth; they are my strength.” – Mata Amritanandamayi Top Embracing the World is a global network of charitable projects conceived by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (an NGO with Special Consultative Status to the United Nations) Join us Local ETW groups Facebook YouTube Instagram Related Sites Amma.org Amrita Hospital Amrita University AMMACHI Labs AmritaCREATE Wireless Networks Amrita SeRVe AYUDH India AYUDH Europe AYUDH Americas Media Press Kit ETW In The Media Download ETW eBook (PDF) Amma's Fact Sheet-2019 (PDF) Humanitarian Projects Food 10 Million Meals Every Year, India Nairobi, Kenya San Jose, Costa Rica Cancun, Mexico North America Kenya Sydney and Melbourne, Australia Southern France Granollers, Spain Shelter 100,000 Homes for the Homeless, India Orphanage for 500 Children, India Relocating Slumdwellers, India Amrita Watoto Boma Children's Home Healthcare Amrita Hospital Medical Camps Satellite Hospitals HIV/AIDS Health Clinic Public Health Telemedicine Cataract Surgeries in Kenya Education 100,000 Scholarships for Children Award-winning Adult Education After School programs School for Hearing Impaired School for Differently-Abled Amrita University Livelihood Empowering Women Lifetime Financial Aid Traditional Arts School Industrial Training Center Vocational Training Center Environment Planting Trees Home and Community Gardens Reducing, Reusing, Recycling Clean India Campaign Environmental Education Sustainable Communities Emergencies Landslides in North and South India, 2013 Fire Disasters in South India, 2012 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, 2011 Haiti Earthquake, 2010 Karnataka / Andhra Pradesh Floods, 2009 Cyclone Aila, 2009 Bihar Floods, 2008 Hurricane Katrina, 2005 Mumbai Floods, 2005 Indian Ocean Tsunami, 2004 Gujarat Earthquake, 2001 Research Wireless Technology for Landslide Detection Groundbreaking Nanotechnology Human-Computer Interaction for Everyone Fighting an Epidemic with Biotechnology Virtual Laboratories Wearable Technology for Health and Safety Tablet-based Learning for Rural Children Open and Distance Learning Made with by volunteers in canada, france, germany, india and the united states. © 2020 Embracing the World / Terms of Use / Privacy Policy...
